Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, stated at the 18th annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) that the development of the Middle Corridor and the strengthening of regional transport links are of strategic importance.
“Elchi” reports that the deputy minister said Georgia is working closely with member states and partners to increase the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor.
According to her, the country is implementing projects aimed at expanding transit and logistics capabilities.
Tamar Ioseliani particularly emphasized the strategic role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line for the region. She stated that the completion of the project has enabled an increase in cargo transportation in the East-West direction and further strengthened regional railway connections.
The deputy minister added that Georgia plans to attract 7 billion US dollars in investment for the development of key transport and logistics infrastructure by 2032.
During the meeting, it was also noted that a significant increase in cargo flow along the Middle Corridor has been recorded. According to the information, container transportation in Georgian ports increased by 20% in 2025, and container transportation by rail increased by 14%. The total transport flow along the Middle Corridor increased by 33%.
T. Ioseliani stated that the creation of a joint venture between the railways of the Middle Corridor countries will further improve the coordination of multimodal transport and the competitiveness of the route.
The deputy minister also noted that the development of direct ferry connections to expand access to European markets via the Black Sea remains one of the priority directions.
Within the framework of the session, the chairmanship of TRACECA was transferred to Kazakhstan. By the decision of the member states, the former Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Choriyev Casurbek, was elected as the new Secretary General of the organization.
