Hantavirus cases are on the rise! Another person has tested positive

One of the 14 Spanish passengers evacuated from the MV Hondius ship, where hantavirus cases were detected and who were brought to Madrid, has tested positive for hantavirus via PCR.
elchi reports that, according to information provided by the Spanish official news agency EFE citing sources in the Ministry of Health, one person among the 14 Spanish passengers brought from Tenerife to the Gomez Ulla military hospital in Madrid yesterday tested positive, while 13 tested negative for hantavirus. Ministry sources stated that the passenger who tested positive has no symptoms, is in good general health, and that a second test will be conducted to confirm or refute the initial result.
In accordance with the protocol, the individual, who was separated from the other 13 people who tested negative, was transferred to the hospital’s High-Level Isolation and Treatment Unit (UATAN).
Two people previously tested positive
Meanwhile, speaking to Cadena Ser radio, Deputy Minister of Health Javier Padilla avoided giving much information about the patient, stating only that he is a man. Padilla explained that although the person is asymptomatic, the health team informed them about the results immediately after the initial sample was taken, and they were transferred to UATAN under strict security measures without any physical contact. “We will take care of them and treat them in the best possible way,” Padilla said, adding that this person, like the others who were isolated, is receiving psychological support. Previously, hantavirus was detected in a French national and an American among the passengers evacuated from the MV Hondius ship, which set sail for Rotterdam, Netherlands, after staying for two days at the Granadilla de Abona port in Tenerife. There were 27 crew members, a doctor, and a nurse from the World Health Organization on the ship.
