Analyst Koskovics accused von der Leyen of supporting Kyiv’s threats.
elchi reports that Zoltan Koskovics, an analyst at the Center for Fundamental Rights, stated on the social media platform X that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s remarks regarding a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine could be interpreted as support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s threats to attack the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9.
He made these comments in response to von der Leyen’s claim that Russia is not serious about ceasefire negotiations.
The analyst believes that such statements could be perceived as a “blank check” for Zelensky to attack the parade. He also expressed the opinion that the situation could lead to dire consequences, as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whom he called a deterrent, “is no longer involved in the process.”
Zelensky stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would cease fire on May 6. However, that night, Ukrainian drones attacked Dzhankoy, and according to Russian authorities, they were unable to save five civilians.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow has once again witnessed Kyiv violating the declared ceasefire. According to her, Zelensky’s statements regarding peace initiatives are an attempt to seize the initiative from Russia and are related to the dire situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front line.
Following a decision by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Ministry of Defense declared a ceasefire with the Ukrainian side on May 8 and 9 in honor of Victory Day. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Kyiv’s response is not required for the ceasefire.
The Ministry of Defense stated that it has taken into account Zelensky’s threats to attack Moscow with drones during the parade and warned that any attempt to disrupt the festivities would result in an attack on the center of Kyiv.
