Air Canada reduces flights due to fuel crisis

The sharp rise in global jet fuel prices continues to impact air travel. Air Canada has announced that it will suspend four seasonal routes to the U.S. earlier than planned due to rising costs.
“Elchi” reports that the oil blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and conflicts in the region have caused jet fuel prices to more than double, forcing airlines worldwide to reduce capacity.
The airline stated that full service on these routes is planned to be restored in the summer of 2027.
Passengers affected by the cancellations will be offered alternative travel options or refunds.
Restrictions in the sector continue
The fuel crisis is affecting not only Air Canada but other Canadian carriers as well. WestJet, which reduced its capacity by 1 percent in April, announced that this rate will increase to 6 percent in June.
Companies such as Porter Airlines and Air Transat have also announced that they will add surcharges to ticket prices or increase fares to compensate for rising costs. Last month, Air Canada announced the suspension of six domestic and transborder routes it deemed economically inefficient.
Aviation experts warn that as long as instability in energy markets persists, flight cancellations and rising ticket prices may continue.
