A giant tsunami caused by a part of a mountain collapsing into the sea in Alaska has become the second largest wave ever recorded. Scientists are warning about the risks posed by melting glaciers.
elchi reports that a massive wave that occurred in a remote fjord in southeastern Alaska last summer left behind large-scale destruction.
This event, which went largely unreported at the time, was discovered through new scientific analysis to have been caused by a massive landslide.
Approximately 64 million cubic meters of rock, equivalent to 24 Great Pyramids, fell into the sea. The force generated by this massive amount of rock falling into the fjord in less than a minute created a giant wave approximately 500 meters high.
