On the night of March 6, 2026, Hungary returned the funds of Ukraine’s “Oschadbank” that had been confiscated by the country’s special services.
“Elchi” reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on social media.
“An important step in relations with Hungary: today, the funds and valuables of ‘Oschadbank’ have been returned. We had already brought back the cash-in-transit guards earlier, and now the funds and valuables are fully back on Ukrainian territory,” Zelensky noted.
The President of Ukraine also thanked the Hungarian side for this “constructive and civilized step.”
It should be noted that on March 5, 2026, two cash-in-transit vehicles belonging to Ukraine’s “Oschadbank,” carrying 40 million dollars, 35 million euros, and 9 kg of gold, were detained in Hungary.
At the time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó claimed that the confiscated funds might allegedly belong to the “Ukrainian military mafia” and demanded an official explanation from the Ukrainian side.
Later, Kyiv managed to secure the release of the seven cash-in-transit guards.
