Fico announced he will not attend the Victory Day parade in Moscow

KOB: Fico will meet with Putin in Moscow, but will not attend the Victory Day parade.
elchi reports that, according to the SME portal, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced that he will not attend the Victory Day Parade in Moscow.
Fico explained that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and “lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to express gratitude on behalf of the Slovak people for their freedom.”
Fico noted: “I am not going to the military parade.”
On May 4, “The European Conservative” newspaper reported that the European Union’s reaction to Fico’s visit to Russia has caused serious disagreement among member states.
The publication noted that after Fico’s visit to Russia was announced, the Baltic countries and Poland banned the Slovak government plane from flying over their territories, and the Czech Republic confirmed such a request. According to the author of the article, this incident shows that EU member states have not yet been able to reach a unified approach towards Russia.
On April 29, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced that foreign leaders would attend the Victory Day parade. Specifically, Fico was expected to be in Moscow.
This year’s Victory Day parade in Moscow will be held without military equipment. This decision is partly related to terrorist activities in Kyiv. According to presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the parade will take place, but in a reduced format. Similar restrictions have been applied in other regions, such as St. Petersburg.
