The second day of the visit of the representatives of the diplomatic corps to our liberated territories began in Shusha.
elchi reports that, accompanied by Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan became acquainted with the work being carried out at the New Shusha Mosque, which is currently under construction.
Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Shusha district, informed the foreign representatives about the New Shusha Mosque project.
It was noted that the foundation of the mosque was laid by President Ilham Aliyev in 2021. The shape of the mosque will symbolize the number 8, representing the day Shusha was liberated from occupation – Victory Day, while its two minarets will symbolize the number 11 – the 11th month in which the city was liberated. The height of the minarets will be 72 meters.
Shusha is also famous for its mosques, which are examples of historical architecture. Another pearl will now be added to these historical architectural gems – the New Shusha Mosque.
Afterward, the foreign guests became acquainted with the Gazanchi Church.
Later, the representatives of the diplomatic corps visited the Shusha branch of the National Carpet Museum.
It was noted that the building of the Shusha branch of the National Carpet Museum, built in the second half of the 19th century, is located in the Upper Quarter of the city. Since the building had fallen into disrepair during the occupation and its historical appearance had been interfered with, restoration work was started here by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2021.
During the occupation, taking into account that the art pieces kept in the branch were in danger, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum organized their evacuation on February 29, 1992. Thus, 183 out of 246 exhibits in the collection of the Shusha branch were brought to Baku. During the period when the city was under occupation, the Shusha branch continued its activities at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum. Now, in addition to the exhibits that were once evacuated and mainly date back to the 18th-20th centuries, valuable carpets added to the branch’s collection in recent years are also on display. In total, 115 pile and flat-woven carpets, carpet products, archaeological materials, national embroidery and clothing sets, as well as jewelry and artistic metal samples are once again on display at the museum.
