Zelensky wants to challenge Russian grain in global markets.
“Elchi” reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on his Telegram channel that Kyiv is synchronizing sanctions against Russia to counter Moscow’s alleged “grain fleet.”
“It is important to strengthen work with partners to synchronize sanctions – Ukrainian sanctions in partner jurisdictions and partner sanctions in ours. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported on this and other contacts. In particular, we are working more systematically on Russia’s shadow grain fleet – ships used to transport grain stolen from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
He recalled the situation with a Russian ship in Israel, where Ukraine “carried out appropriate work.” According to him, Kyiv is building a system to “counter the shadow grain fleet, as well as the shadow oil fleet.” The dispute between Ukraine and Israel over allegedly “stolen” grain intensified after the “Abinsk” ship, considered part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” and carrying grain worth 8.5 million euros, began unloading in the port of Haifa on April 12. According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the ship departed from the Kavkaz port in the Kerch Strait. On March 23, the ship approached Haifa and anchored there for three weeks waiting for entry.
Later, EU foreign affairs representative Anuar El Anuni announced that EU leadership was considering imposing sanctions on Israeli representatives for purchasing the grain. They consider the grain to be “stolen” because it is alleged to have been harvested in newly occupied Russian regions of Ukraine.
