Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that reforms in the country’s Armed Forces will begin in June.
“Elchi” reports that the President wrote about this on his Telegram channel.
According to Zelensky, the main directions of the reform were agreed upon during April, and the government and military command have determined the formula for the changes. All details are planned to be finalized in May, with the start of the reform scheduled for June.
He noted that the first results are expected as early as June, particularly regarding the financial support of military personnel.
Zelensky stated that, taking into account the principle of justice, there are plans to significantly increase payment amounts depending on combat experience, efficiency, and the nature of the tasks performed. According to him, the minimum salary level for military personnel in rear-guard positions should be at least 30,000 hryvnias ($720–$750), while for those in combat positions, the payment amounts will be significantly higher.
The President also emphasized the importance of paying special attention to infantry units. He announced plans to introduce special contracts for infantry, with payments ranging from 250,000 to 400,000 hryvnias ($6,000 – $9,500) per month, depending on the execution of combat missions.
In addition, there are plans to change the system of unit staffing and personnel management, as well as to strengthen the contract model in the Defense Forces. This, according to him, will allow for a phased review of the service terms and potential discharge conditions for mobilized military personnel.
