For nearly 30 years, Azerbaijan has been waiting for clarification on the fate of the missing relatives of thousands of families.
elchi reports that this was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, in a statement to journalists in Khankendi.
Hikmet Hajiyev stated that during the occupation, as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, thousands of Azerbaijani citizens were taken prisoner and hostage, and no information has been provided about their subsequent fate to this day: “Currently, the fate of nearly 4,000 missing persons remains unknown, and the vast majority of them are civilians.”
The Assistant to the President noted that although the International Committee of the Red Cross has collected certain information during this period, it has not been able to fully complete this work in accordance with its mandate.
“We have made appeals to the other side through various channels, including representatives of Armenian civil society. Families are still waiting for information about their children,” he emphasized.
