On May 1, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, who is on a visit to our country.
According to the information provided to elchi by the MFA, it was emphasized during the meeting that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Committee of the Red Cross is long-term and based on trust, and the importance of continuing regular contacts between the parties was noted.
The humanitarian activities carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross in our region were discussed, and the importance of Azerbaijan’s support for these steps was emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that against the backdrop of tension and military operations in the region, Azerbaijan has always remained committed to humanitarian principles, including the provision of humanitarian aid to Iran during the periods when military operations continued in that country.
It was stated that in the modern era, armed conflicts mainly lead to severe consequences for the civilian population, and the necessity of increasing the efforts of the international community in this direction was noted. In this context, the importance Azerbaijan attaches to international law and international humanitarian law, as well as its constant adherence to these principles, was especially emphasized.
Steps taken towards establishing peace and stability in our region in the post-conflict period were also discussed at the meeting. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other party about the work being done to advance the peace agenda and strengthen mutual trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During the meeting, an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest also took place.
