South Korea to send special envoys to Middle Eastern countries

South Korea will send special envoys to Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain to strengthen cooperation with Middle Eastern countries amid supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the region.

elchi reports that the Yonhap agency informed about this, citing the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moon Byung-jun, a special envoy of Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, who previously served as charge d’affaires at the South Korean Embassy in Saudi Arabia, will visit these three countries from Monday to May 9.

During the visit, he will hold meetings with high-level representatives of the states, discuss the situation in the region, and explore prospects for practical cooperation in various fields.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry stated that the mission is aimed at strengthening interaction with key partners in the Middle East against the backdrop of ongoing disruptions in global supply chains and exploring opportunities to expand bilateral relations once the situation stabilizes.

The conflict in the region, which began at the end of February with US and Israeli strikes on Iran, has led to wider tensions, causing disruptions in world trade and instability in financial markets.
