The intellectual scarcity that jeopardizes successes – COMMENTARY

The modern world is characterized by the speed of its processes. We sometimes become active or passive participants in these processes without even understanding their essence. The situation has reached such a level that we sometimes find ourselves in the middle of an event without even knowing how it happened. It is as if we are all, as a society, running after a “bus” that is moving away from us at high speed, the number of which we do not even know: just to catch it, get on it, and get away from where we are standing. The “superpowers” that are the authors of globalization have brought the modern world to a roughly similar state. The main problem is that because events happen so quickly, we cannot find time to think, and as the years go by, the number of thinking minds decreases at an alarming rate. As a similar picture develops, the only hope is wrongly associated with catching that moving “bus”. Thus, modern society moves further away from free and deep thinking every day. It is no coincidence that deep and interesting thought has already become a scarce product. Thanks to the press, which has turned the mere reporting of various events into a pure business field, it is sold to society as “analytics”. Yes, the scarcity of thought not only stops prospective development but can even be the cause of degradation. In the plane of ideology, which keeps the independent “spirit” of the state and society alive and is the pillar of sustainable development, “thought” acts as an inexhaustible source of power before us. It is for this reason that it is impossible to separate “thought” and professional politics from each other. The life of politics without thought will be short, and thought without politics will have no social benefit.

This was stated by political scientist Asif Adil in an interview with AZERTAC.

He noted that despite the abundance of information, the scarcity of thought inevitably makes politics shallow, increases the number of mistakes, and the global internet turns politics into a mistakenly accessible type of activity. The result we get is that we are periodically doomed to witness various “political monstrosities”. Due to irresponsible demagoguery devoid of deep and professional thought, as well as pathetic slogans, such an important field as “politics”, which plays a key role in the development of the state and society, has simply turned into a platform for clarifying relationships between individuals. Of course, the abundance of information does not at all indicate the existence of deep and independent thought in politics. The rapid and continuous flow of information occurring thanks to the global internet fundamentally complicates the production of independent and national thought. That is why some see the only hope in catching the above-mentioned “bus” that is moving away from us at high speed without wasting time and without thinking. Young and independent states have been successfully put into a similar mode of life by the authors of global trends. It is no coincidence that despite all efforts, most countries in the world are just like that famous “hamster” spinning the wheel in place without stopping. Therefore, in order not to run blindly after the flow and not to fall into geopolitical traps, independent, national, and deep “thought” must necessarily become an element of political relations. Politics devoid of thought, like a shallow river, only makes noise and can confuse people. Those who call thought an empty theory and cut it off from politics are, in fact, paving the way for demagoguery and emotional manipulation in political relations.

Asif Adil noted with regret that against the background of technical progress observed in the world, there are still those who call “thought” an empty theory. Perhaps this is the result of modern political relations being characterized by socio-psychological manifestations: slander, evil, manipulation, incitement, pressure, psychological pressing, depression, apathy, denial, hatred, prejudice, false perceptions, stereotypical thinking, emotional tension, unreasonable haste, etc. At the root of all this lies distorted information, and of course, where these listed dangerous manifestations exist, the loss of socio-political adequacy is just a matter of time. Demagoguery, cheap populism, and emotional manipulations are imprinted in the public consciousness of the population through the internet as signs of democratic relations. Of course, the listed factors only distance us from the process of forming independent and national thought in politics, and the circulated fake perceptions of democracy drag political processes into a dead end. In politics where there is a scarcity of thought, emotions will definitely prevail, strategic goals will be forgotten, and the attention of society will be directed only to various difficulties. For this reason, the fate of the process of forming national political thought and national ideology cannot be left to the mercy of the borderless internet.

The political scientist emphasized that today the uncontrolled internet, including social networks, resembles wild jungles. And in a wild jungle, a healthy and functioning democracy cannot be formed. Therefore, politics without thought can return us repeatedly to the wild jungle or, worse, to a cold cave. Every responsible and patriotic citizen who sincerely wishes for the development of this nation and the native homeland must know that Azerbaijan is constantly facing various provocations precisely because it does not want to run after the flow in a “blind” way. Yes, Azerbaijan, which wants to continue on its own independent path, becomes a target for some forces. However, as a nation and a people, we must not forget that it was precisely because we remained loyal to our independent path that we tamed the “double politics” raging in the world and achieved a historic Victory in the 44-day war. No force can steal these feelings, this national joy, and pride from us. We must always protect the achieved successes and our hopes for the future. Here we must definitely recall the words of President Ilham Aliyev: “We showed the whole world and the peoples who are suffering from occupation today, and even those who are suffering from colonialism, that one must live with faith. Faith should never be broken. If faith is broken, then justice can never triumph.”
