“Ukraine is ready to sign a peace agreement with Russia and stop military operations along the current line of contact. However, Kyiv will not agree to recognize the temporarily occupied territories as part of Russia.
elchi reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with “ABC News”.
Commenting on the possibility of Ukraine giving up 25 percent of its territory to reach a peace agreement, Zelensky emphasized that Russian troops control less of the country’s territory:
“They have not occupied 25 percent of our territory. When someone talks about 25 percent, it means that we would have to withdraw from our territories in Donbas. This would mean that they control 25 percent of our territory. Currently, they control 19.3 percent,” Zelensky said.
According to him, Ukraine is ready to end the war as soon as possible and freeze the conflict along the current front line. However, this does not mean that Kyiv will legally recognize the captured territories as Russian territory.
Speaking about relations with the United States, the President of Ukraine admitted that he feels a lack of support from Washington.
Commenting on the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky said that the American leader’s decision to be “friends” with the Russian President is his personal choice.
