EU Will Demand This From Great Britain

The European Union (EU) intends to persuade Great Britain, Canada, and Japan to increase financial support for Ukraine in 2027.

elchi reports that according to “The Guardian”, Kyiv is facing a financial deficit of approximately 70 billion euros, while the EU and its member states already cover about 80% of the country’s financial needs.

Amidst increasing pressure on budgets, European allies hope to attract additional funds from their partners. The EU has also agreed to allocate 90 billion euros in loans to Ukraine.

Great Britain had previously pledged 25 billion pounds in aid to Ukraine, including 16 billion pounds in military support. However, European countries believe that new financial commitments are needed for the coming year.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the amount of aid to Ukraine as a share of GDP varies significantly among countries: Great Britain’s figure is 0.86%, France’s is 1.1%, and Germany’s is 1.5%. For comparison, Denmark is equivalent to 4.2% of GDP, and Estonia is 3.8%.

The issue of additional support for Ukraine is planned to be discussed at the EU-Great Britain summit on November 20. In addition, the parties intend to advance negotiations on sanitary standards, waste trade, and youth mobility.
