“Ukraine has created a defensive line in Donbas and does not want to give it up.”
elchi reports that US Secretary of State Mark Rubio noted in an interview with “Breitbart News” that this is the root of the conflict.
According to him, Ukraine controls approximately 11 percent of the region. His troops have created a defensive line there and claim that if they surrender it, they will have no opportunity to defend Kyiv by opening a direct path to the Ukrainian capital.
“Ukraine says we cannot give up the remaining 11 percent of Donbas because this defensive line is our last position. This is the root of the conflict,” the diplomat said.
The US Secretary of State noted that the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine is not easy, but Washington is ready and capable of acting as a mediator if an opportunity arises for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
