A Joint Business Council between Syria and Azerbaijan has been established.
“Elchi” reports with reference to Report that this was announced by the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar, at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) held in Baku.
According to him, the challenge for Syria is currently very significant:
“The first thing we need to do today is to reconnect with the world. Due to the oppressive system and regime of the past, we were completely deprived of all kinds of contact with the world not just for 15 years, but for the last 65 years. Therefore, we must rebuild relationships, join processes, and at the same time rebuild and restore our country and show our existence to the whole world. We must establish relations with all the countries we had relationships with in the past, but which were not healthy.”
He noted that today’s Syria is a completely different country:
“It is a peaceful, friendly, and open country. We are in a free market economy. We no longer claim to be socialist or anything like that. So, the whole landscape is different. I would like to give an example of the difficulties we face when re-establishing relations. Just a week ago, we established a Syria-Uzbekistan Business Council. Today, together with Mikayil Jabbarov, we announced the creation of the Syria-Azerbaijan Business Council. Thus, we are starting to reconnect with the world that we have lost over the last 60 years. This is not an easy task.”
