Most of the foreign companies operating in Azerbaijan prefer to reinvest the profits they earn back into the country.
“Elchi” reports that Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov stated this during his speech at the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) held in Baku.
According to the Minister, the processes that have taken place over the last six years have shown how quickly a problem arising in one part of the world can halt production in other countries. At the same time, tariffs, subsidies, and export controls are increasingly influencing where strategic industrial sectors are located.
He noted that it is natural for all countries to strive for economic resilience, but this comes with certain costs. The duplication of supply chains and the restriction of access to technologies often lead to higher production costs. Especially for small economies, the importance of keeping international cooperation and trade open is increasing.
Mikayil Jabbarov stated that while governments cannot eliminate all external risks, they can make their policies more predictable and demonstrate that agreements will be fulfilled.
The Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to fulfilling long-term commitments in building trust and cited the “Contract of the Century” as an example. According to him, the cooperation, which has lasted for more than 30 years, has not only contributed to Azerbaijan’s socio-economic development but has also strengthened the country’s position as a reliable energy supplier.
Currently, Azerbaijan supplies natural gas to 16 countries, 10 of which are members of the European Union. The number of countries to which Azerbaijan exports oil and oil products is even higher.
Mikayil Jabbarov added that long-term partnerships create conditions for attracting new investments and reinvestments, and most of the foreign companies operating in the country choose to reinvest their profits in Azerbaijan.
