German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced his support for the European Commission’s initiative to create a global trade alliance outside the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“Elchi” reports that, speaking at the conference of the German Federation of Wholesale and Foreign Trade, the Chancellor noted that the EU intends to expand and diversify trade relations with partners in Asia and regional associations. “I also support the formation of an alliance outside the WTO, proposed by the European Commission, which defends rules-based trade with like-minded states, with a strong role for the EU and a close partnership with Canada,” Merz stated.
Earlier, the European Commission had proposed the formation of a trade alliance between European and Asian countries based on free trade.
