The operating power of the second power unit of the Paks nuclear power plant (NPP) in Hungary has been reduced due to a mechanical equipment malfunction.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the Reuters agency, citing data from the state corporation MVM.
It is noted that the power was reduced by 150 megawatts, while the standard capacity is 2,000 megawatts. Previously, the NPP operator had already reduced the station’s power due to a record drop in the water level of the Danube River, which provides cooling for the station’s various systems.
Located on the banks of the Danube, 100 km south of Budapest, the Paks NPP provides 45% of the electricity produced in Hungary and 36% of the electricity consumed. The station operates four power units with VVER-440 reactors.
