French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the new regulation promised after the previous measure regarding the use of social media by children under 15 was annulled in August by the Constitutional Council, which deemed it a “disproportionate interference with freedom of expression,” is now ready.
“Elchi” reports that President Macron made a statement regarding the regulation being prepared for children under 15’s access to social media.
Macron stated that since his first day in office, he has approached the issue of protecting children in the online environment with a sense of responsibility.
Emphasizing his determination on this issue once again, Macron announced that the new draft law regulating the use of social media by children under 15 is ready; it should be noted that the previous version was adopted by both houses of the French Parliament but was annulled in August by the Constitutional Council, the country’s highest constitutional body.
Macron noted that following the Council’s annulment decision, the government, through “extraordinary technical work,” has prepared a new regulation that is compliant with European standards and legally justified, and has submitted the new draft law to the European Union (EU) Commission.
Furthermore, Macron emphasized that this regulation aimed at protecting children should be adopted across all of Europe and confirmed their determination to achieve this.
