SEC Chairperson ANNOUNCED changes to 2027 exams

There will be no changes to the model of the 9th-grade graduation and university entrance exams in 2027. However, a new writing task in the foreign language subject will be introduced for the 11th-grade graduation exam.

“Elchi” reports that Maleyka Abbaszade, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the State Examination Center (SEC), wrote about this on her Facebook account.

She stated that no significant changes are planned for the content of the 2027 graduation and entrance exam programs:

“The preparation of programs for graduation exams at the general secondary and full secondary education levels, as well as for university entrance exams, is currently being finalized. The programs will be posted on the State Examination Center’s website in the coming days.”

According to the SEC Chairperson, 5th–11th grade textbooks were analyzed during the preparation of the programs, and the textbooks used by 9th and 11th-grade students in previous years were compared with current editions. As a result, only editorial corrections were made to the programs.

M.Abbaszade noted that textbooks prepared based on new curricula are being introduced in stages. In the current academic year, new textbooks will be used for 7th grade in Azerbaijani language; 7th, 8th, and 9th grades in chemistry, biology, and physics; 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in geography; and 6th and 7th grades in history.

Topics such as financial and media literacy, digital skills, and cybersecurity have been included in the new editions. However, since students currently in the 11th grade did not study using those textbooks, materials from the new editions have not been included in the 2027 exam programs.

References will be made to previous editions for the relevant topics, and those materials will be posted on the SEC website.

“Only topics covered in the teaching process have been included in the programs. No topics outside of the textbooks have been included in the exam programs,” the SEC Chairperson emphasized.

Maleyka Abbaszade also announced the changes regarding exam models:

The model applied in 2026 will be maintained for the 9th-grade graduation exam;

Only the foreign language subject will be changed for the 11th-grade graduation exam;

The model for university entrance exams will not change.

In the 11th-grade graduation exam, a new task format will be used to test students’ writing skills in a foreign language. Exam participants will write a short text expressing their thoughts by putting forward facts and arguments based on a given question or idea.

The SEC Chairperson advised students and parents to rely on the official exam programs to be published by the institution rather than unofficial information.
