Azerbaijani national team member Hidayat Heydarov won a bronze medal at the “Grand Slam” judo tournament held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
According to information provided to elchi by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, the athlete, competing in the 73 kg weight category, advanced to the semi-finals by successively defeating Lucian Borș Dumitrescu (Romania), Abdul Malik Umayev (Belgium), and Akil Gjakova (Kosovo).
In this stage, Heydarov, who lost to Tajikistan’s Masoudi Ahmadzoda, defeated Irakli Goginashvili representing Great Britain in the bronze medal match.
Thus, the number of medals won by the Azerbaijani national team in the tournament reached 4. Earlier, Balabay Aghayev (60 kg) and Konul Aliyeva (48 kg) won gold medals, and Rashad Yelkiyev (66 kg) won a bronze medal.
