Japan has presented a plan for the diversification of energy carrier supplies. This plan specifically provides for the support of projects that allow for the organization of supplies by bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.

Tokyo will cooperate with Middle Eastern oil-producing countries on oil pipeline construction projects. In particular, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security will provide financial support for these projects.
In turn, the “EFE” agency notes that Tokyo views the port of Fujairah (UAE) and the port of Yanbu (Saudi Arabia) as alternatives for the supply of energy carriers. In addition, Japanese authorities are exploring the possibilities of purchasing energy resources from the USA, Algeria, and Peru.
Japan is heavily dependent on Middle Eastern oil: in 2025, the country obtained 93% of its imported crude oil specifically through the Strait of Hormuz.
