Speaking on Iranian state television, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that the agreement reached with Oman provides a 7-mile width for the shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz and effectively closes the southern corridor.
“Elchi” reports that speaking to Iranian state television, Gharibabadi disclosed the details of the agreement reached with Oman regarding the maritime shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that an agreement had been reached between Iran and Oman to activate a joint corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, which means the closure of the southern corridor.
Gharibabadi said that according to the agreement, it was decided that the shipping lane in the strait would temporarily be 7 miles wide, and that Oman agreed to completely close the southern lane, adding that currently, the Iranian armed forces do not allow passage through the southern lane.
Gharibabadi added that this lane is temporary and negotiations will be held with Oman regarding a permanent lane. The Iranian official claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and that Iran has full control over it, stating that claims regarding the passage of ships through the strait are false.
Gharibabadi emphasized that the US and other countries must know that “the Strait of Hormuz will only be opened within the framework of agreements determined by Iran.”
