“The Baku Metro is facing rapid development plans in the coming period.”
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by Bakhtiyar Mammadov, head of the press service of “Baku Metro” CJSC.
According to him, measures have been initiated in various directions at the Baku Metro in connection with the construction of ten new stations:
“These ten new stations will completely change the social environment of the city’s public transport sector as a whole, and will provide an impetus for the positive resolution of issues such as the mixing of passenger flows and traffic congestion in the city. With the construction of ten new stations, the carrying capacity of the Baku Metro will increase.
For comparison, I should note that in 2025, 230 million passengers used the Baku Metro. After this program is implemented, the metro’s carrying capacity will have the potential to transport an additional 88 million passengers.”
Bakhtiyar Mammadov noted that the Baku Metro has a specific established issue, which is the intersection and connection of the green and red lines—the two important lines connecting the city center with its surroundings—at the “28 May” station:
“To solve this problem, the Baku Metro is starting the most important phase on August 15. This important phase is primarily the completion of the second stage of the construction of the electric depot near the Darnagul station. This means ensuring the movement of trains in that direction and creating conditions for their inspection and technical maintenance. The second important issue is the construction of a connecting tunnel approximately 200 meters long. This tunnel is of special importance as it will be the junction point of the tunnels connecting the “Jafar Jabbarli” station with the “Nizami” station, and this construction process is expected to last 10-11 months.
We specifically mention the 10-11 month period because the hydrogeological conditions of the area where the “28 May” station is located are complex. If favorable ground conditions are found in that direction, it will be possible to complete the project even earlier.”
