It is reported that the first patient in Russia to receive a personalized melanoma vaccine is in good health and has developed the necessary immune response against the disease.
elchi reports that Alexander Ginzburg, scientific director of the Gamaleya Research Institute, who played a role in the development of the vaccine, stated that the treatment of a 60-year-old stage three melanoma patient who received the first dose in April is ongoing.
Ginzburg noted that tests have shown the body is producing the active compounds needed to fight tumors and metastases, and that the immunological response is extremely positive.
Last year, the Russian Ministry of Health approved the use of the mRNA-based “Neooncovac” vaccine developed for advanced melanoma and the “Oncopept” peptide drug targeting colorectal cancer.
Officials from the Gamaleya Institute announced that the personalized melanoma vaccine will be prepared for 10 more patients in the coming period and that production will be completed within one to three months.
