It is reported that Baresi underwent surgery in August 2025 due to a nodule discovered in his lung. He had been battling ongoing health issues in recent times.
It should be noted that Franco Baresi played 716 official matches for “Milan” over 20 seasons and is remembered as one of the greatest figures in the club’s history. The number 6 jersey he wore has been retired by the club. Throughout his career, Baresi won the Italian Serie A 6 times, the UEFA Champions League 3 times, and the Intercontinental Cup 2 times. He played 81 games for the Italian national team, was part of the 1982 World Cup-winning squad, and reached the final as team captain in the 1994 World Cup.
