Speaker of the Milli Majlis met with President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira

Within the framework of her visit to the Republic of South Africa, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira.

This was reported to “Elchi” by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

During the meeting, a broad exchange of views took place regarding friendly relations between Azerbaijan and African countries, prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, and issues of mutual interest.

President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira highly appreciated the speech of Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova at the opening ceremony of the Conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments, noting the great importance of the ideas voiced regarding solidarity, friendship, and inter-parliamentary cooperation. He emphasized the important role that parliaments play in the implementation of the Pan-African Union Agenda 2063.

The President of the Pan-African Parliament stated that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner for African countries, noting that the parties are united by common values and relations based on mutual respect. He noted that parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in strengthening ties between peoples and promoting mutual interests.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stated that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with African countries.

The Speaker particularly emphasized the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary relations, strengthening political dialogue, increasing mutual trust, and developing cooperation in new directions.

She noted that it is important to continue joint activities at the regional and international levels. Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that further expansion of inter-parliamentary relations will serve mutual interests and that there are good opportunities for expanding institutional cooperation with the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova invited the leadership of the Pan-African Parliament to visit Azerbaijan, expressing her confidence that this visit would make a significant contribution to the development of mutual relations and the expansion of practical cooperation.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was held on the prospects for the development of cooperation between the Milli Majlis and the Pan-African Parliament, as well as between the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the Pan-African Parliament, interaction within the framework of international parliamentary organizations, and other issues of common interest.
