The trial for the student accused of shooting a teacher at “Idrak” Lyceum has taken place.
“Elchi” reports with reference to Teleqraf that at the Baku Grave Crimes Court, during the proceedings presided over by Judge Vugar Guliyev, the representative of the victim, Shahla Kamilova, also filed the same motion.
The representative stated that the victim’s photo was taken by journalists in front of the court and published in materials prepared about the trial.
The representative said that both the victim and the accused would testify at today’s hearing, and facts would be revealed there. He requested that the trial be held behind closed doors to prevent these details from being disseminated.
Subsequently, the lawyer for the accused, Rashad Mirmehdizade, announced a motion for the trial to be held behind closed doors. He stated that the interests of minors must be protected, and also that 8 out of the 12 witnesses in the case are minors.
The lawyer said that unpleasant comments are being written about the family members of the accused on social networks.
The legal representative of the accused, his mother, also supported the motion and requested that the trial be held behind closed doors.
The state prosecutor stated that he left the motion to the court’s discretion. Then, the judges went to the deliberation room to make a decision. Returning from the deliberation, the judges announced the decision.
According to the decision, the motions were granted, and it was decided that the trial would be held partially behind closed doors.
The decision stated that the trial would be partially closed to ensure the administration of justice and to allow individuals to testify freely.
Media representatives and outsiders were removed from the proceedings.
Currently, the questioning of the parties continues in the closed session.
According to the indictment, the teacher, Shahla Kamilova, reprimanded the student for not knowing the lesson. The student perceived the reprimand as a sign of disrespect.
Later, the teenager took a hunting rifle and a magazine, which were hidden by his father, Samir Shirinov, from their home in Rasulzade settlement, to his room. He loaded the magazine and hid it in his bag.
He was able to bring the rifle into the lyceum easily because the guard did not check the bags. Later, he prepared the firearm for shooting, brought it to the room where teacher Shahla Kamilova was, opened fire, and left the scene.
It should be recalled that the incident took place on February 6 of this year at the “Idrak” Lyceum located in the Binagadi district of the capital.
According to the information released by the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the district prosecutor’s office received information about the fact that a teacher was injured as a result of a student opening fire with a firearm at the school. The student suspected of committing the act was detained.
In connection with the fact, a criminal case was initiated in the Binagadi district prosecutor’s office under Article 29, 120.1 (attempted intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a preliminary investigation was conducted.
