The Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has received reports regarding the illegal access to business accounts belonging to various legal entities through special software and the subsequent theft of funds.
According to the information provided to elchi by the Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational-technical measures, Zakir Nahmadov, born in 2008, was identified and detained on suspicion of committing the aforementioned criminal act. Investigations revealed that Z. Nahmadov developed special software to obtain identification data for business accounts belonging to various LLCs.
Subsequently, using this information, he sent electronic confirmation requests to gain access to the business accounts. After the requests were confirmed without verifying their source, Z. Nahmadov gained illegal access to the accounts and seized the funds contained therein.
Later, in order to conceal the source of the funds obtained through criminal means and to “cover his tracks,” he converted the money into cryptocurrency to launder it. Preliminary investigations revealed that Z. Nahmadov caused more than 100,000 manats in damages to the victims.
A criminal case has been initiated at the Main Department under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and investigations are ongoing.
“We once again appeal to citizens and business entities not to confirm requests related to identification data, internet banking, and other electronic payment instruments without verifying their source. Under no circumstances should they share login credentials, confirmation codes, or electronic signature information with third parties. If they observe suspicious requests, links, or unknown transactions related to their accounts, they should immediately inform the servicing bank and police authorities. It should not be forgotten that every confirmed electronic request can create grounds for carrying out financial transactions on your accounts,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs statement says.
