Expanded meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Germany held

On July 21, an expanded meeting was held in Berlin between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The German President recalled his visit to Azerbaijan with pleasure.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier characterized Azerbaijan and Germany as islands of stability against the backdrop of events taking place in the world and the region.

He extended his congratulations on the achievements made in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agenda.

The German President specifically noted the role Azerbaijan plays in Europe’s energy security.

For his part, the head of our state also recalled Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit to our country with pleasure.

Touching upon the role Azerbaijan plays in Europe’s energy security, President Ilham Aliyev stated that our country is already exporting gas to Germany and Austria as well.

During the conversation, it was noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and Germany are of a friendly nature, it was stated that there are broad opportunities for the development of economic and business ties, and confidence was expressed that this visit of the head of our state to Germany would give a serious impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation.

The importance of the “Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany,” which will be signed by President Ilham Aliyev and Chancellor Friedrich Merz during this visit due to the strategic nature of Azerbaijan-Germany relations, was emphasized.

At the meeting, the visit of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to Baku was recalled, and in this regard, the development of Azerbaijan-European Union relations was noted.

During the conversation, the importance of the Middle Corridor and Azerbaijan’s significant role in this corridor were touched upon, and an exchange of views took place regarding the situation in the Middle East.
