Public transport accessibility and attractiveness will be increased in Azerbaijan.
elchi reports that the issue in question is reflected in the document “Long-Term Development Strategy of Azerbaijan for Low Carbon”.
It is noted that the increase in the use of public transport such as metro systems and public buses will reduce emissions from passenger cars.
This will be achieved by modernizing infrastructure, implementing micromobility solutions, and increasing the attractiveness and accessibility of public transport.
In addition, increasing the use of railways instead of trucks in freight transport will reduce GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions in transport by 2060. Rail transport, especially those powered by electricity from renewable sources, is more energy-efficient and releases fewer emissions into the atmosphere compared to trucks.
Freight trains can also carry a larger volume of goods per trip, thereby reducing the number of trips required and consequently reducing overall fuel consumption and emissions.
