Buildings from the Soviet era in Azerbaijan to be insulated by 2060

Construction materials from the Soviet era will be replaced with highly energy-efficient insulation for decarbonization.

elchi reports that this is reflected in the document “Azerbaijan’s Long-Term Strategy for Low-Carbon Development”.

It was noted that adequate insulation is required to increase the energy efficiency of heating and cooling systems. Taking into account the old construction materials from the Soviet era and their corresponding non-optimal standards, the installation of high-performance insulation materials that meet high energy efficiency standards will be required to achieve decarbonization. All existing and new buildings are expected to have optimal insulation by 2060. This will be achieved by installing advanced thermal insulation and high-performance insulation materials such as double-glazed windows. Improved insulation is expected to reduce the demand for heating and cooling energy and contribute significantly to net-zero emissions.
