Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his country deserves to be a full member of the European Union (EU).
elchi reports that Zelensky held a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived in Kyiv to participate in the “Ukraine-South East Europe Summit.”
Thanking the EU for the support provided to his country since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, Zelensky stated that assistance in the political and defense spheres is vital for them.
Touching upon his country’s integration process with the EU, Zelensky said: “Today, everyone in Europe agrees. We deserve to be a full member of the EU.”
Zelensky stated that they are waiting for the EU to approve the 21st package of sanctions against Russia and added: “I am absolutely confident that thanks to joint pressure, our cooperation with Europe and the USA, and our people, we will achieve peace. Together, we will be in peace in a united and strong Europe.”
Changes in the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers in Ukraine
In his speech, Zelensky also touched upon the process of changes in the cabinet composition, which he announced on July 12.
As part of the government changes, the Ukrainian President announced that Sergiy Koretsky, CEO of the Ukrainian state oil and gas company Naftogaz, has been nominated for the position of the new Prime Minister to replace Yulia Sviridenko, who resigned from her post.
Zelensky noted that Koretsky is currently holding discussions in parliament before the new cabinet receives a vote of confidence.
