A court hearing has been held regarding the criminal case of a student accused of shooting a teacher at “Idrak” Lyceum.
elchi reports, citing Teleqraf, that the victim, Shahla Kamilova, also attended the proceedings at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Vugar Guliyev.
During the verification of her personal details, she stated that she works as a mathematics teacher at “Idrak” Lyceum.
The defense lawyer for the accused, Rashad Mirmehdizade, submitted several motions. He requested to sit next to his client. The court granted the motion. The next motion concerned holding the proceedings behind closed doors. The lawyer linked the motion to information provided by media representatives. He stated that information about the case is being reported in the press and discussed extensively in the comments.
According to the lawyer, the family has two other children. This information also affects them. The parties did not object to the motion.
The court decided that there was no necessity to hold the case in a closed session at the current stage.
Subsequently, the prosecutor read out the indictment.
According to the charges, the teacher, Shahla Kamilova, reprimanded the student for not knowing the lesson. The student perceived the reprimand as a sign of disrespect. Later, the teenager took a hunting rifle and a magazine of cartridges, which had been hidden by his father, Samir Shirinov, from their home in Rasulzade settlement, to his room. He loaded the cartridges into the magazine and hid them in his bag. He was able to easily bring the rifle into the lyceum because the security guard did not check the bags. He then prepared the firearm for shooting, brought it into the room where teacher Shahla Kamilova was present, fired at her, and left the scene.
The accused pleaded partially guilty. He stated that he had no intention of killing the teacher.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 24.
It should be recalled that the incident took place on February 6 of this year at the “Idrak” Lyceum, located in the Binagadi district of the capital.
According to the information released by the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the district prosecutor’s office received information regarding the fact that a teacher was injured by a student firing a firearm at the school. The student suspected of committing the act was detained.
On February 7, by the decision of the Binagadi District Court, a preventive measure of arrest for a period of 4 months was chosen against him.
In connection with the fact, a criminal case was initiated in the Binagadi district prosecutor’s office under Article 29, 120.1 (attempted intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a preliminary investigation was conducted.
