On June 26, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Antonio Tajani.
According to the information provided to elchi by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the current state and development prospects of the Azerbaijan-Italy strategic partnership relations were discussed during the telephone conversation.
The ministers noted with satisfaction that the high-level political dialogue between the two countries has taken on an intensive character. In this context, it was emphasized that the state visit of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, to Azerbaijan last autumn, the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in January of this year, as well as the visit of the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, to Azerbaijan in May, demonstrate the strategic nature of Azerbaijan-Italy relations and the dynamic development of cooperation based on mutual trust.
The parties noted the importance of continuing political dialogue and mutual visits in the coming period, as well as further expanding cooperation in economic-trade, energy, transport, industry, investment, education, and other areas. In this context, it was stated that the Azerbaijan-Italy Business Forum, scheduled to be held in the autumn of this year, will be an important platform for deepening bilateral economic partnership.
The ministers emphasized the importance of the conference to be organized in September of this year in partnership with “The European House – Ambrosetti” for the development of the Azerbaijan-Italy economic and political dialogue.
Noting with satisfaction the successful cooperation in the energy sector, the parties highlighted that the cooperation between SOCAR and the Italian company Italiana Petroli (IP), as well as the company’s acquisition, is one of the important directions of bilateral economic relations. The importance of expanding mutually beneficial projects in the economic sphere and exploring new cooperation opportunities was noted.
During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views also took place regarding the peace agenda in the post-conflict period in the region, the situation in the Middle East, and other regional security issues.
