ADY plans to purchase new passenger trains and carriages from China – PHOTO

Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), one of the AZCON Holding companies, visited CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. in the People’s Republic of China during his visit to the country and met with the company’s head, Wang Qiaolin.

According to information provided to “Elchi” by ADY, the meeting focused on the development of railway passenger transport in Azerbaijan and the expansion of the modern rolling stock fleet.

It was noted that CRRC Zhuzhou, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of rolling stock, is interested in developing cooperation with ADY.

ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov stated that the modernization of railway transport in Azerbaijan is a priority for providing passengers with more comfortable, safe, reliable, and sustainable services: “One of ADY’s goals is to form a modern rolling stock fleet that responds flexibly to the growing passenger demand. Negotiations on the purchase of new passenger trains are of great importance in terms of improving service quality on both suburban and inter-regional routes.”

During the meeting, negotiations were held regarding the purchase of 4 new passenger trains to be used on inter-regional routes on Azerbaijan’s railways, and the trains presented by CRRC Zhuzhou were inspected. The parties exchanged views on the technical parameters of the rolling stock, energy efficiency, modern artificial intelligence-based safety systems, operational durability, supply of spare parts, maintenance, and training opportunities.

In addition, the issue of purchasing 20 passenger trains within the framework of the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030,” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 30, 2025, was also discussed. The Chinese side’s proposals in this direction were heard, and views were exchanged on the technical, commercial, and implementation mechanisms of the project.

The ADY delegation also visited CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. and met with the company’s head, Yan Qi.

It was stated that CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co., Ltd. has extensive experience in the production of passenger carriages, electric trains, and other rolling stock. The company’s technological capabilities in this field make the prospects for cooperation on ADY’s future projects for the modernization of its passenger transport fleet relevant.

During the meeting, technical and commercial issues related to the purchase of 4 new passenger trains and 50 passenger carriages were discussed in detail. The parties exchanged views on the technical characteristics of the trains and carriages, safety systems, passenger comfort and maintenance opportunities, supply of spare parts, as well as personnel training and technology transfer issues.
