A delegation from the “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), one of the AZCON Holding companies, is on a business trip to the People’s Republic of China.
According to the information provided by ADY to “Elchi”, within the framework of the visit, ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov met with Chen Zhijin, head of China’s “CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd.”.
During the meeting, issues such as the modernization of the Azerbaijan Railways locomotive fleet, increasing the technical capabilities of rolling stock for freight and passenger transportation, providing flexible and safe services for growing freight traffic along international transport corridors, as well as expanding cooperation between ADY and “CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd.” were discussed.
It was noted that the increasing role of Azerbaijan in the international transport and logistics chain, and the strategic importance of transportation along the North-South and East-West directions passing through the country, make it necessary to develop railway infrastructure, including the locomotive fleet, in accordance with modern requirements. ADY pays special attention to the renewal and expansion of its locomotive fleet to ensure more reliable, safe, and sustainable freight operations, and attaches particular importance to cooperation with Chinese companies, including “CRRC Ziyang”, in this field.
It was stated that according to the contract signed last year between ADY and “CRRC Ziyang” for the purchase of 7 new freight locomotives, the delivery of the locomotives to Azerbaijan is scheduled for September. The parties held negotiations regarding the purchase of 14 locomotives to be ordered in the next phase. The ADY delegation became acquainted with the final stage of the production process of the 7 locomotives and exchanged views on a number of technical issues. The AC50-type mainline locomotives, equipped with advanced technologies, will be used for freight transportation along international transport corridors passing through the territory of Azerbaijan.
Within the framework of the meeting, a contract was also signed between ADY and “CRRC Ziyang” for the purchase of 4 new mainline passenger locomotives. The locomotives are scheduled to be delivered to Azerbaijan during 2027. The new passenger locomotives will allow for further improvement of service quality and passenger satisfaction, especially in long-distance transportation.
