The Persian Gulf Waterways Authority (PSGA), established by Iran, has announced that, in accordance with the agreement reached between the US and Iran and official directives, ships requesting passage will be granted permission to transit the Strait of Hormuz for a period of 60 days.
“Elchi” reports that the PSGA issued a statement regarding transit through the Strait of Hormuz on its account on the US-based social media platform X.
The statement indicates that, based on the signing of the agreement with the US and instructions provided by officials, all applicants wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz will be granted transit permits for a period of 60 days.
The statement notes that applications must be made through the “sole official channel,” “psga.ir” and “info@psga.ir,” and that reliable and accessible information about the ships wishing to pass must be provided.
Transit requests must be notified 48 hours in advance
Accordingly, to prevent delays in entering and exiting the Strait of Hormuz, transit requests containing all necessary information must be submitted at least 48 hours before reaching the strait area.
During the 60 days following the signing of the agreement with the US, ship owners will not be charged for security, protection, and environmental services, and these costs will be borne by the Iranian government.
The statement emphasizes that due to certain security threats along the transit route, the route and planned transit time must be coordinated for each ship before heading towards the strait, highlighting the importance of ensuring safe passage and preventing maritime accidents. It is emphasized that the responsibility for failure to comply with this rests with the ship owners.
