A presentation ceremony for the book “Zərkənd is our trust (Historical-ethnographic chronicle of Zərkənd village, Goycha district)” dedicated to the village of Zərkənd in the Goycha district was held at the Western Azerbaijan Community.

The authors of the book “Zərkənd is our trust (Historical-ethnographic chronicle of Zərkənd village, Goycha district)” are Shahin Bayramov, Rafiq Namazov, and Ali Haziguliyev.

The scientific editor of the book is Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vagif Shirinoglu, and the editor is Miraslan Azizkhanoglu.

“Elchi” reports that the publication extensively covers the centuries-old historical development path of Zərkənd village, the demographic landscape of its population, the lineage and genealogy system, educational traditions, as well as the social and cultural life of the village.

In addition, the book provides detailed information about Zərkənd’s prominent intellectuals, the art of ashigs and the folklore environment, linguistic features, and customs. At the same time, the life paths, heroism, and dedication of village residents who participated in the Second World War and the Karabakh wars are highlighted in special sections. It was noted that the main purpose of the publication is to preserve historical memory and pass it on to future generations.

The presentation of the book was attended by the leadership of the Western Azerbaijan Community, community members, representatives of science and the public, as well as representatives of Zərkənd.

In the speeches, it was emphasized that the book holds special significance from a scientific and historical perspective, and it was noted that it serves as an important source for preserving the memory and national heritage of Zərkənd.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community and Member of the Milli Majlis, stated that significant work has been done in recent years in the field of researching the truths of Western Azerbaijan, studying our historical homelands, and preparing scientific publications in this direction. He noted that preserving historical memory, researching the past of our ancient settlements, and passing them on to future generations is of special importance today.

Aziz Alakbarli emphasized that after the historic Victory won in the Patriotic War, the idea of returning to Western Azerbaijan has entered a new stage, and this issue has become one of the main directions of state policy. According to him, the systematic collection and publication of historical facts, toponyms, family memories, and the past of villages related to native homelands serve to form the scientific foundations of the concept of return.

The Chairman of the Board pointed out that writing village histories is an extremely complex and responsible process, requiring long-term research, the study of archival documents, the collection of witness testimonies, and a rich source base. Noting that the authors of the book “Zərkənd is our trust” demonstrated great effort and dedication, he stated that the publication is of great importance not only for Zərkənd village but also for the study of the historical and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan as a whole.

During the speech, it was noted that such publications contribute to the preservation of historical memory, helping the younger generation to know their roots better and conveying the truths of Western Azerbaijan to the international community.

Aziz Alakbarli expressed his confidence that the book will be one of the valuable sources for future researchers and emphasized the importance of continuing the work carried out in this direction.

Parviz Samadov, Associate Professor at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science, and a resident of Zərkənd, who spoke next, stated that the publication plays an important role in keeping historical memory alive, preserving memories related to the native land, and passing them on to future generations. He noted that such works are of special importance not only for one village but also for the study of the historical and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan as a whole.

The scientific editor of the publication, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vagif Shirinoglu, who spoke at the event, discussed the scientific value of the book. He pointed out that the historical past, demographic development stages, and lineage system of Zərkənd are comprehensively researched in the work.

The professor emphasized that the facts, documents, and memories collected in the book allow for a systematic study of the village’s history and serve as a reliable source for future research.

Following this, a video dedicated to Zərkənd was shown. The video reflected the historical past of the village, as well as the factors that led to the creation of the book. It was stated that the main goal in preparing the publication is to systematize the rich history of Zərkənd, the memories of village residents, and genealogical information to pass them on to future generations and to preserve the historical memory of the native land. The video was received with interest by the participants.

Nazir Ahmadli, member of the Board of the Western Azerbaijan Community, journalist-researcher, Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry; Arzu Samadbeyli, former Member of Parliament; Niyamaddin Ordukhanli, Deputy Chairman of the Justice, Law, Democracy Party; Rafail Becanov, head of “Cumhuriyet” newspaper and “Cebhe.info” News Portal; as well as village residents Gurban Ismayilov and Namig Nabiyev spoke at the event about the significance of the publication.

The speakers emphasized that the book is of great importance in terms of conveying the historical past of Zərkənd, its social-cultural life, and the memories living in the minds of its residents to future generations. It was noted that such publications make a significant contribution to the preservation of the historical-cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan, the systematization of information related to homelands, and the keeping of historical truths alive. In the speeches, it was specifically noted that the book is a valuable source from both a scientific and moral point of view.

It was stated that even for people who are knowledgeable about Zərkənd, the book contains new and interesting points. The book includes examples of dialects and accents related to the village, which makes the publication more readable and valuable.

It was noted that this book was created as a result of great effort and extensive research, and the long-term work of the authors further increases the scientific and historical value of the book. The fact that the book was prepared over three years is an indicator of how seriously the authors approached the topic. It was emphasized that such publications are of special importance for the research and preservation of the Western Azerbaijan heritage.

In the speeches, it was specifically noted that since the day the Western Azerbaijan Community began its activities, it has been consistently implementing its set goals. The presentation of the book “Zərkənd is our trust” is an important part of the work done in this direction.

It was noted that the book “Zərkənd is our trust” is evaluated not only as a chronicle of one village but also as an important scientific source for the systematic study of the historical-cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan as a whole. This publication is a fundamental encyclopedic research work covering the centuries-old history, social-demographic landscape, and intellectual potential of Zərkənd.

It was noted that in the book, archival materials based on camera descriptions from 1831, 1842, 1873, and 1886 were analyzed and synthesized in a comparative manner with modern genealogical research.

This approach allowed for a more accurate determination of the historical roots of the tribes that lived in the village and the systematization of their lineages. At the same time, the family structures, settlement dynamics, and demographic changes formed in Zərkənd were presented on a scientific basis.

It was brought to attention that the work contains extensive and systematized information about the historical development path of the Zərkənd school, as well as prominent scientists, doctors, lawyers, statesmen, and military personnel produced by the village. Along with this, the village’s agricultural life, traditional household culture, the art of ashigs, and the linguistic features of the local dialect were also researched and presented to readers.

The book also contains a wealth of documentary material regarding the lives, heroic paths, and the memory of our martyrs among Zərkənd residents who participated in the Second World War and the battles for Karabakh. This part was evaluated as one of the important sections that further increase the scientific and moral value of the publication.

At the end of the event, the co-author of the book, Shahin Bayramov, provided detailed information about the preparation process of the publication, long-term archival research, and the systematization of the collected materials. He expressed his gratitude to all organizations and individuals who supported the creation of the book, especially the community leadership and the staff of the Community Apparatus, and thanked everyone who contributed to the process.
