Lapland, known for its landscapes reminiscent of the world of Narnia and often called the home of Santa Claus, invites tourists this summer to leave reindeer tours behind and join a secret gold hunt.
elchi reports that participants will search for a gold nugget worth approximately $23,000 by exploring the trails and landmarks of the Levi resort, located in Northern Finland, which is known for its winter ski slopes.
According to a statement from Visit Levi, the “Midnight Sun Hunt” will begin on June 18 at the Levi Visitor Center.
Participants can register at this center to receive their first clue. Later, hikers will be given new clues that will lead them closer to the prize by following local trails and tourist attractions.
Organizers stated that the gold nugget could be found after following any clue, and the location will become clearer each day with additional clues throughout the summer. The final clue is scheduled to be revealed on August 22. Located above the Arctic Circle, Levi is one of Finland’s most important ski resorts and a popular winter destination. In the summer, the region experiences the midnight sun, and Lapland enjoys 24 hours of sunlight during certain periods.
Satu Pesonen, CEO of Visit Levi, stated that although Levi is primarily known for its winter season, the northern summer is still undiscovered.
Pesonen said: “We want to provide travelers with a new reason to visit Levi during this period when the sun never sets and the mountain landscape takes on a completely different character.”
Like many winter tourism centers in Europe, Levi is diversifying its services during the snowless season with activities such as paragliding, hiking, rafting, and mountain biking.
The treasure hunt in question is organized in collaboration with the Kittilä-based gold mining company Agnico Eagle Finland and the Levi Ski Resort. The organizers reminded participants to act responsibly, stay within permitted areas, and respect the natural environment, emphasizing that the hunt does not in any way involve digging or destroying the land.
