The Hantavirus ship that terrified the world sets sail again

The Hantavirus ship, which caused global panic after three people died due to human-to-human transmission among its passengers, is setting off on its new route following a biosecurity operation.
elchi reports that last May, a mysterious illness spread on the MV Hondius ship, which was traveling with approximately 150 passengers and crew from 28 different countries. The process, which began with passengers falling ill one after another, quickly turned into a global health alert. Investigations confirmed a total of 13 hantavirus cases on the ship, and three of these individuals died. It is estimated that the disease spread from two passengers who were infected after coming into contact with rodents while birdwatching in Argentina.
Among those who died during the epidemic were a Dutch couple who visited a wild landfill and a German passenger. In addition, a British citizen who was taken to intensive care, as well as other passengers on the ship, were evacuated at various ports and quarantined as a precautionary measure.
The ship was completely disinfected
Following the crisis, Dutch health authorities carried out a very extensive biosecurity operation on the ship. Oceanwide Expeditions, the company that owns the ship, announced that every part of the giant eight-deck vessel had been thoroughly cleaned and that no rodents remained inside. Authorities stated that hantavirus has low resistance in the external environment and that this intensive disinfection process has completely eliminated the possibility of re-infection. With the cleaning of the ship, the Dutch authorities have allowed the luxury cruise ship to resume sailing as of May 30.
