The gas reserves of the Shah Deniz field could be sufficient to meet the UK’s gas demand for approximately 10 years.
elchi reports that this was stated by Joe Kristofoli, bp’s regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, at the Baku Energy Forum session titled “Leaders’ Speeches: Leaders’ positions on energy transformation and future strategies.”
According to him, Shah Deniz is one of the main pillars of energy security for Azerbaijan and the region.
“Shah Deniz is one of the fundamental pillars of energy security. The field’s gas reserves amount to 28 trillion cubic feet. For comparison, I would note that this volume would be sufficient to meet the UK’s gas demand for 10 years,” he said.
J. Kristofoli noted that bp continues to invest to make the most efficient use of the reserves in the field. Currently, new wells are being drilled within the framework of the project.
He added that the company is investing $2.9 billion in the installation of a compressor platform at Shah Deniz.
“This facility will be fully electrified and operated remotely. This will be the first such project in the Caspian Sea in terms of complexity,” the bp official emphasized.
According to him, the investments being made serve to more efficiently exploit the reserves in the field and ensure the long-term sustainability of production.
