US President Donald Trump has stated that the exchange of messages with Iran is continuing at a rapid pace.
“Elchi” reports that he wrote about this on “Truth Social”.
“Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are ongoing and moving quickly,” the American leader said.
The US and Iran are discussing a memorandum of understanding that provides for the extension of the ceasefire regime and the restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
It should be noted that control over the Strait of Hormuz is one of the unresolved points of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. If the parties can reach a common ground on this issue, the removal of the Islamic Republic’s enriched uranium from the country will be the main topic of discussion. The release of Iran’s frozen assets and the lifting of sanctions imposed on the country are the issues closest to a resolution.
It is worth recalling that on February 28, the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran, and airstrikes were carried out on a number of cities. On that same day, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and US military bases in Persian Gulf countries.
Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8. Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely.
The parties held negotiations in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, but the first round held on April 11-12 did not yield any results.
To exert pressure on Tehran, the US has blockaded Iranian ports and passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for ships heading to the Persian Gulf. The dynamically changing situation in the region has caused a global energy crisis.
