The resumption of official negotiations on a new, comprehensive agreement between the European Union and Azerbaijan is of particular relevance.
elchi reports that Mariyana Kuyundzich, Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, said this at the EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum.
According to her, two constructive stages of negotiations have already been held in Baku and Brussels, and the process is ongoing.
The ambassador stated that the European Union remains Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner.
“Azerbaijan is one of the important energy suppliers for the European Union, especially through the Southern Gas Corridor,” the EU ambassador noted.
The diplomat emphasized that the partnership is expanding, covering areas such as renewable energy, wind energy, and the “green transition”.
“Azerbaijan can also play an important role in the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, which has great potential in terms of strengthening trade, logistics, and connectivity between Europe and Asia. In this context, the official visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to Baku on July 1-2, 2026, should be specifically noted. During that visit, she announced the “Global Gateway” investment package, which envisages mobilizing up to 2 billion in state and private sector investments in infrastructure projects along the South Caucasus. One of the main directions of this package is the support of strategic transport and connectivity infrastructure. This includes the modernization of the Nakhchivan railway network and the expansion of the Baku port,” Kuyundzich added.
Mariyana Kuyundzich also noted that they are working to facilitate the attraction of European private investments to Azerbaijan in a strategic area such as renewable energy.
She recalled that earlier this month, the European Commission successfully organized the EU-Azerbaijan Business Roundtable on Clean Energy in Brussels with the participation of European business associations: “We understand that a predictable investment climate and equal competitive opportunities are particularly important for European companies interested in investing in Azerbaijan.”
