President Ilham Aliyev has addressed the participants of the “Baku Energy Week”.
“Elchi” reports that the address states:
“Dear participants of the event!
Dear guests, ladies and gentlemen!
I sincerely greet you at this prestigious event held within the framework of the “Baku Energy Week”.
For many years now, the “Baku Energy Week” has become an influential platform where the global energy agenda is shaped and new approaches and cooperation formats are formed. The importance of this event is increasing every year. This is because the world is going through a transition phase from the traditional energy model to a new energy system based on sustainable, low-carbon development strategies and technological innovations. In such a situation, Azerbaijan’s role in the global energy dialogue is further strengthening.
Our country’s energy history is based on rich traditions and significant historical achievements. As early as the 19th century, the formation of the modern oil industry in Azerbaijan turned our country into one of the leading centers of global energy history. The 20th century was a period when Azerbaijan’s international energy partnerships were formed under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. In the 21st century, our country has entered a new stage in the direction of transition to “green energy” and the establishment of a sustainable energy model.
The energy policy implemented by Azerbaijan continues to yield important results today. The current year is marked by a number of landmark events in the energy sector. In particular, the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Production Sharing Agreement for the “Shah Deniz” gas field and the 20th anniversary of the start of commercial gas production from this field once again confirm Azerbaijan’s strong position in the global energy market and the successful implementation of our country’s energy strategy.
Currently, the energy sector is one of the main pillars of sustainable development in the world. Modern geopolitical processes show that reliable provision of energy security is directly related to the diversification of energy sources and the application of innovative technologies. In this regard, investments in renewable energy and low-carbon technologies are growing rapidly. The energy transition has become not only an environmental issue but also a factor of economic security and competitiveness.
Our country is also implementing a consistent policy in the direction of “green energy” and further strengthening its strategic position. Located at the crossroads of Eurasia’s energy and transport routes, our country makes a significant contribution to the development of regional energy cooperation as a reliable partner. Abundant energy resources, established infrastructure, and high trust gained at the international level are our main advantages.
Azerbaijan’s rich renewable energy potential creates broad opportunities for the implementation of long-term strategic goals in the direction of “green energy”. The implementation of large-scale “green energy” projects with international energy companies and the fact that natural gas exports cover a wide geography further strengthen our country’s role as a reliable and strategic partner in the global energy system. The fact that Azerbaijan is in leading positions in the World Economic Forum’s report on energy transition also shows that this is highly appreciated at the international level.
Realizing the existing potential in the field of renewable energy and expanding “green energy” opportunities are the main strategic goals for the coming period. This approach expresses the beginning of a qualitatively new stage in the energy system. In that stage, the main priorities, along with the efficient management of energy resources, are the development of renewable energy sources, the acceleration of the transition to “green energy”, and the application of modern technologies.
In particular, the successful application of the “green energy zone” model within the framework of large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in the liberated territories has become one of the main directions of our country’s future energy strategy. The successful implementation of this approach has paved the way for its further expansion and the declaration of Nakhchivan as a “green energy zone” as well.
I am confident that the “Baku Energy Week” will continue to make a significant contribution to the expansion of the global energy dialogue, the formation of new initiatives, and the building of a sustainable energy future.
In conclusion, I express my gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event, and I wish each of you successful cooperation, productive discussions, and new achievements!”
