Medvedev warned Russia’s enemies

Medvedev: Intimidation campaigns against Russian scientists are doomed to failure.
“Elchi” reports that intimidation campaigns against Russian scientists are doomed to failure. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, while answering a question from RIA Novosti regarding the case of archaeologist Alexander Butyagin.
The politician noted that “Blackmail, provocations, threats, and hostage-taking are almost the characteristic style of our enemies.”
Medvedev emphasized that in the current situation, Russia pays special attention to the safety of all its citizens, including talented scientists.
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council also answered a question about whether instructions were being prepared for Russian scientists working abroad. Medvedev believes this is pointless because scientists have prestige and influence in the global community and know how to behave in influential international environments. However, the politician added that caution and foresight would not hurt. The Russian scientist Alexander Butyagin, head of the Classical Archaeology Department at the State Hermitage Museum, was detained in Poland in December 2025 at the request of Ukraine. He was accused of “destroying cultural heritage” during excavations in Crimea. In March, the Warsaw District Court granted Kyiv’s request for the archaeologist’s extradition.
However, Butyagin was not handed over to Ukraine. On April 28, a prisoner exchange involving five people took place at the Polish-Belarusian border, during which the scientist was also released. In early May, he returned to work at the Hermitage. Butyagin stated that he plans to return to Crimea in the coming months.
