IKI RAS: giant sunspots are affecting space weather.
elchi reports that solar activity has begun to intensify due to large sunspots approaching the visible side of the Sun and is already affecting space weather. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI RAS and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of SB RAS.
Experts noted that the giant sunspots are still on the far side of the Sun, but flares in the upper layers of the corona are partially visible above the horizon. According to scientists, this is what has begun to change the previously calm dynamics of solar activity.
The laboratory clarified that it will take about one or two days for these areas to appear on the visible side of the Sun.
However, experts emphasized that the situation does not currently appear dangerous. The Solar Orbiter spacecraft is transmitting additional data regarding the situation. According to scientists, the spacecraft is recording the gradual decay of active regions on the far side of the star. Researchers have proposed drawing final conclusions once the spots have fully emerged on the visible side of the Sun.
Currently, the geomagnetic environment remains calm. The charts show a “green” activity level.
